Frequently asked questions
What is included in the free version?
Quill is free to download and free to try in full for 30 days. After the trial, the free tier keeps two notebooks, one linked recording, and one linked video, and exports carry a small Quill mark. Every note you have already written stays open, editable, and exportable. Nothing is ever locked away.
What does Quill Pro unlock?
Quill Pro is a one-time $22.99 purchase, not a subscription. It unlocks unlimited notebooks, timestamp linking for every recording and video, on-device transcription of recordings and videos, clean watermark-free PDF and PNG export, and every future local update.
How do I restore Quill Pro?
Quill Pro is tied to your Apple ID. There’s no subscription and nothing to renew. If you reinstall the app or move to a new iPad, open Settings → Restore Purchases to unlock it again. Quill Pro is also shareable with your Family Sharing group.
Can I restart the free trial?
No. The 30-day trial is recorded against your Apple ID, so it resumes rather than restarts after a reinstall or on a second iPad. That is deliberate: it means the trial can never be accidentally lost, either.
How do I cancel or get a refund?
Because Quill Pro is a one-time purchase rather than a subscription, there is nothing to cancel. Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com and sign in with your Apple ID. Where required by law, we will honor statutory refund rights.
Where are my notes stored, and how do I back them up?
Notes live in Quill’s own container on your iPad, or, if you enable it in Settings, in your private iCloud Drive container, where they back up and sync under your own Apple ID. There is no Quill account and no Quill server. You can also export any note as a PDF or PNG at any time.
Does audio and video linking work offline?
Yes for recordings, imported PDFs, local video files, and all handwriting. Those are entirely on-device. Embedded YouTube videos need a network connection, because the video is streamed from YouTube. Import a local video file instead if you need offline playback.
How do I delete a note or my data?
Moving a note to Recently Deleted keeps its ink, recording, imported document, and video timeline recoverable. Choosing Delete Forever or emptying Recently Deleted removes those files. Deleting the app removes locally stored data; anything in iCloud Drive is managed through your iCloud account. See the Quill Privacy Policy for details.
Is my data private?
Yes. Quill has no account system, no analytics, no advertising, no AI, and no backend server. Read the full Quill Privacy Policy.
